What You Need to Know about the Rivian R1S Max Pack Range

What You Need to Know about the Rivian R1S Max Pack Range
Rivian R1T and R1S formally receive EPA rating above 300 miles

Rivian is a leader in the electric vehicle (EV) industry, and they have recently released their R1S model. The R1S has been touted as having an impressive range of 316 miles per charge with its Large pack battery option. But what about those who are looking for even more range? Rivian has promised that a Max Pack option will be available for the R1S, but when and how much range it will offer remains to be seen.

At present, only the R1T model can be configured with a Max Pack, which offers an estimated 400+ miles of range. This makes sense since the R1T was designed from the ground up to accommodate larger batteries than the R1S. However, Rivian has stated that they anticipate the R1S Max Pack to have less range than the R1T's Max Pack. They also plan on releasing a 250+ mile pack for both models after launch.

Unfortunately, no one has yet been able to configure an R1S with a Max Pack, so all we can do is speculate at this point. Some rumors suggest that the Max Pack may only be available in the 5-seat configuration or that it won't be as big as the R1T's Max Pack. We'll just have to wait until January 2022 when Rivian plans on making an announcement regarding the R1S Max Pack configuration. Until then, Launch Editions are shipping first and Max Packs second, so hopefully we won't have too long to wait before getting our hands on one!

In the meantime, Rivian has made it clear that they are committed to providing customers with a range of battery options. They have also stated that their goal is to make EVs more accessible and affordable for everyone. This means that even if you don't opt for the Max Pack option, you can still get an impressive amount of range from your R1S or R1T model.

It's exciting to see what Rivian will bring us in terms of battery technology and performance in 2022! We'll just have to wait until January when we should finally learn more about the elusive R1S Max Pack configuration. Until then, let's keep our fingers crossed and hope for some good news!

Will Rivian offer the Max Battery Pack as an option on the R1S?

Rivian has not yet let anyone configure a R1S with a Max Pack - it simply hasn't been something you could "pre-order" yet. Right now it's an intended feature that they're clearly working on. We heard at one point that it might only be available in the 5-seat configuration, or that the R1S Max Pack may not be as big as the R1T Max Pack, but these are all basically rumors. There are no EPA estimated ranges for the R1T Max Pack yet, and I would expect to see that first before any information about the R1S Max Pack comes out. Rivian has been saying for a long time that they will make an announcement in January 2022 about the R1S Max Pack configuration.
