What is the newbie's experience with the iX40?

The newbie has just set up an account and agreed to buy a iX40 last week for delivery hopefully next week. They are looking forward to it and learning how all the toys work, but are a little concerned about all of the things not working listed on this forum. This will be their first EV and they will be charging from public charge points.

Is heated steering wheel included in the iX40?

The heated wheel isn’t specifically mentioned, however it may be included as part of the comfortable plus spec.

Are there many iX40s on the road?

In London, U.K., there haven't been many seen on the road yet. In the US, one user has had their IX 50 for five months and still hasn't seen another on the road.

Does Norway have a well developed charging infrastructure or EV incentive scheme?

Yes, Norway has a well developed charging infrastructure around cities and until the end of 2022 there is no tax on EV's, making the incentive scheme quite appealing.

How did the newbie get their iX40?

The newbie had a test drive in the dealers demo car and said they would buy it as it had a very full spec. However, another dealership in their network had sold it so they offered them a new one instead. With interest rates factored in, it was cheaper to buy new with a warranty. They saw the car on BMW new car stock and contacted the dealer who didn't know they had it. After some negotiation and deposit paid, they are hoping to collect it next week. It is Sophisto grey with black seats, tech pack plus, comfortable pack plus, pan roof, and some other things.

What should someone consider when buying an EV?

It is recommended that someone does not buy any EV right now as the tech is evolving too quickly and newer models will come out with better range and better efficiency. It is best to buy for long term ownership once the tech matures. If relying upon public charge points, one should assume they are going to charge up to 80% each time which means they will start off with 205 miles (80% of 257 miles range). To avoid having to hunt around for a rapid charger, it is recommended not to let the battery get down to below 10%, i.e. 25 miles of range, before recharging. This gives an effective usuable range of 180 miles between charges.
