How did you get the Rivian invite?
I got the invite this morning and called to schedule my drive. The website link in the email just took me to the Rivian site, but didn’t seem to work. It took only several minutes to schedule on the phone and they had slots as soon as 3/18.
What model and spec did you order?
I ordered an R1T with Adventure Package, Quad-Motor AWD, Large pack, Rivian Blue, 22" Sport Bright wheels and Interior Ocean Coast. I also have an R1S on order with Adventure Package, Quad-Motor AWD, Large pack, Compass Yellow, 22" Sport Dark wheels and Interior Black Mountain.
Did you get any email?
No, I didn't get any email. Maybe it was because we have two reservations.
What was your experience with the First Drive?
Thanks to Kevin over at Rivian Venice for the hour long First Drive. It exceeded my expectations. The ride height is taller and gives a nice view from above. I didn't feel like there were any blind spots of concern and it actually felt much less exposed than the Tesla Model 3 Performance (M3). The interior details are incredibly well thought out and it is obvious that they have paid attention to every aspect. The materials felt good and of high quality. The seats were great and very comfortable.
What about the acceleration?
The acceleration was smooth and powerful. It felt like it had more torque than the M3, which was a pleasant surprise. I also liked that the acceleration was linear and not jerky like some other EVs. The brakes were very responsive and provided good feedback.
How did you find the handling?
The handling was great. I could feel the weight of the vehicle, but it wasn't too heavy to be cumbersome. The steering was precise and gave good feedback. The suspension was comfortable and absorbed bumps well. Overall, I was impressed with how well the R1T handled on the road.
Did you get any extras?
Yes, I got a few extras with my order. I got the Rivian Adventure Pack which includes a roof rack, bed tent, and air compressor. I also got the 22" Sport Bright wheels which look great and give the vehicle a more aggressive look. Lastly, I got the Interior Ocean Coast package which adds some nice touches to the interior of the vehicle.
What did you think of the overall experience?
Overall, I was very impressed with my First Drive experience. The vehicle felt great and had a lot of power. The interior was well thought out and the materials were of high quality. The handling was precise and the suspension was comfortable. I'm looking forward to taking delivery of my R1T and R1S soon!
