Rivian Stories - Gear Guard is the latest addition to Rivian’s security system. It uses a combination of five cameras embedded around the truck, a braided steel cable that secures items in the bed and on the roof, and an animated character called “Yeti” in the center display to protect drivers’ vehicles while they are away. The Gear Guard Security system features 11 embedded cameras, 5 of which provide a full 360-degree view of the space surrounding the car, including a direct view inside the truck bed. These cameras record any nearby human activity in 30-second clips and store them on an internal HD memory chip.

The Gear Guard Alarm also alerts drivers when their vehicle has been tampered with or moved while they are away. This feature can be activated via the R1T's center display. Drivers can also watch saved video clips through this same display.

Rivian has designed their software using the best aspects of other systems, such as Tesla's Sentry Mode. However, it seems that only those who purchase the Adventure Package will get access to this feature, leaving out those who cannot afford to do so. Hopefully Rivian reconsiders and makes Gear Guard available for all packages, since it would cost them nothing to do so.
