Registering a Rivian R1T Electric Pickup Truck in Idaho - Advice on Charging Setup and Protecting Your Investment
2022 Rivian R1T First Drive Review: The Electric Pickup Revolution Is Real, and It's Here

Rivian's r1t is a highly anticipated electric pickup truck that has been long awaited by many. The lucky owner of this vehicle will be receiving it tomorrow, but before they can take it home, they need to register the car with their state DMV.

When purchasing a new car in-state from an authorized dealer, registration is usually handled at the dealership. However, since Rivian is not yet available in Idaho, the owner must handle registration themselves. This includes obtaining license plates and registering the car in either their business name, or their spouse's (which may be cheaper). If the owner decides to sell the car instead of keeping it, they do not have to register it.

The owner also needs to consider how they plan on charging their r1t. Fortunately, they have relatives down the street who have a Tesla charger which should suffice for now. They plan on running 240 volts to the easement and installing a locking box for public parking outside of their house.

To protect their investment, paint protection film (PPF) is recommended as it helps keep your car looking like new despite everyday wear and tear. Rivian does offer PPF in certain high-wear areas such as around gear tunnel doors and rock panels.

Originally, an off-road package was available which included tow hooks and an underbody shield; however, these are now optional add-ons due to changes in configuration options on March 1st. Tow hooks come standard with both Adventure and Launch packages while the underbody shield can only be added during factory production - it cannot be added later.

Taxes and registration fees are usually paid through the dealership at time of pick up; however, if the owner is from another state then they may need to visit their local DMV to complete the process.

It’s always good to hear positive news about Rivian vehicles being delivered! We look forward to hearing more updates from our fellow Idaho resident about their experience with registration and charging setup for their r1t.
