Volvo recently released their global sales numbers for August, and the results were quite impressive. In the US, 206 EVs and 1174 PHEVs were sold. Europe saw a 15.8% decrease in EV sales from January to August, with 10,995 EVs sold during that period. However, China saw a 31% increase in EV sales from January to August, with 17,179 EVs sold during that period.
In Europe, Recharge vehicles saw a 14.9% decrease from January to August, with 5,223 vehicles sold during that period. Plug-in hybrids saw a 29.8% decrease from January to August, with 3,769 vehicles sold during that period. Fully electric vehicles saw an increase of 9.6%, with 1,454 vehicles sold during that period.
In China, Recharge vehicles saw a 21.5% increase from January to August, with 1,337 vehicles sold during that period. Plug-in hybrids saw a 19.4% decrease from January to August, with 845 vehicles sold during that period. Fully electric vehicles saw an increase of 46.2%, with 492 vehicles sold during that period.
In the US, Recharge vehicles saw a 30.3% decrease from January to August, with 1,380 vehicles sold during that period. Plug-in hybrids saw a 7.7% decrease from January to August, with 1,174 vehicles sold during that period. Fully electric vehicles saw a 70.9% decrease from January to August, with 206 vehicles sold during that period.
Other markets also experienced decreases in EV sales from January to August. Recharge vehicles saw an 11.1% decrease from January to August, with 1,642 vehicles sold during that period. Plug-in hybrids saw a 24.9% decrease from January to August, with 1,300 vehicles sold during that period. Fully electric vehicles saw an increase of 192.3%, with 342 vehicles sold during that period.
Overall, Volvo experienced a 4.6% decrease in EV sales from January to August across all markets combined, with 43,666 EVs sold during that period. Recharge vehicles saw a 13.4% decrease from January to August across all markets combined, with 9582 vehicles sold during that period. Plug-in hybrids saw a 16% decrease from January to August across all markets combined, with 8093 vehicles sold during that period. Fully electric vehicles saw an increase of 28%, with 4117 vehicles sold during that period.
It is clear that Volvo has seen some success in the EV market this year despite the pandemic and other economic challenges faced by many countries around the world this year. It will be interesting to see how Volvo's EV sales numbers continue to evolve over the coming months and years as more people become aware of the benefits of electric cars and make the switch away from traditional gasoline-powered cars and towards more sustainable options like EVs and PHEVs.
