Ford Lightning Order Bank Opens on Jan. 6
Ford has announced that they will be opening their order bank for the Ford Lightning electric pickup truck on Thursday, January 6th. Those who have already made a reservation should expect to receive an email from the company in the coming days with instructions on how to convert it into an order. Pricing is now live on their website, with the cheapest option being $74,169 for the Extended Range Battery model.
It’s no wonder that many people are choosing to go with Ford over other options like Rivian. The R1T model from Rivian may offer more features and better performance, but it comes at a much higher cost than the Ford Lightning. Even when fully loaded (with extras such as Bang & Olufsen Sound System, Ford Co-Pilot360, running boards, power tailgate, rear power-sliding window, extended running boards, SiriusXM and tow package), the price of a Ford Lightning still only reaches up to $79,764 before any rebates or discounts. This makes it an absolute steal compared to its competitors.
Unfortunately, some dealerships are taking advantage of this situation by charging market adjustments of up to $20k above MSRP. This means that those who really want to get their hands on a Ford Lightning could end up paying well over $100k for one. Thankfully, there are also dealerships out there who respect MSRP and don’t charge markups - so if you’re willing to look around you can avoid these outrageous prices.
Ultimately, whether you choose Ford or Rivian depends entirely on your needs and preferences. While Ford offers more of a work truck feel (and even the ability to power your house) while Rivian focuses more on performance and adventure. It all comes down to personal preference; both vehicles have their own set of pros and cons which make them appealing in different ways.
At this point in time, it seems that Tesla/Rivian model is becoming increasingly popular due to its sustainability and lack of dealer markups. However, until the current dealer model dies out completely it’s important to remember that there are still plenty of dealers out there who respect MSRP and won’t charge extra fees - so keep looking around if you don’t want to pay too much for your new vehicle!
