Delightful Delivery & Impressive Impressions of My 2023 BMW iX - Exciting TODOs Ahead!

My 2023 BMW iX: Delivery, Initial Impressions, and TODOs
Delivery of my 2023 BMW iX was a smooth process. I placed a reservation in August 2022 and was expecting a 2023 delivery. On August 31st, I stumbled upon a post on the Facebook iX group about someone backing out of their purchase due to family relocation. The car had almost exactly the colors and options I wanted! After some quick negotiations with the sales agent from Weatherford BMW in Berkeley, I picked up the car the next day. It was a win-win for both me and the dealership, as it was the last day for them to receive an EV related credit.
Initial Impressions of my new iX were overwhelmingly positive. All praises about ride quality, handling, cabin quietness and material (with leather) are true. Compared to my 2018 Q7 (fully loaded), this is a substantial step up. Efficiency seems excellent too; with 21" wheels and AS tires, my consumption ranged between 3.5 and 3.7 mi/kwh, with outside temperature between 75F and 90F. The Head-Up Display (HUD) is absolutely the best in class, especially when integrated with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
TODOs include finding a sunshade for the iX. I looked at Amazon but couldn't find one for the 2023 model. I called Covercraft to see if they have one available or in the works, but they don't have any sunshade for the 2023 iX yet. Another TODO is to tie phone connection to driver profile; currently, my wife's iPhone keeps stealing the connection from my Pixel even when I'm plugged in and her iPhone isn't. Lastly, cup holders aren't heated or cooled which is frustrating since our VW Golf has that feature.
Overall, I am very pleased with my new iX and look forward to many happy safe miles ahead!

How did you get your 2023 iX?
I placed a reservation in Aug 2022 and was expecting a 2023 delivery. On Aug 31, I saw a post about an iX someone just backed out of (apparently due to family relocation) with almost exactly the colors and options I wanted. The poster was a sales agent from Weatherford BMW in Berkeley, only 1hr away from my home. We arranged the deal within hours, and I picked up the car the next day. It was a win-win for me and the dealership --- it was the last day for them to receive some $750 EV related credit!
What are your initial impressions of the 2023 iX?
All the praises about ride quality, handling, cabin quietness and material (with leather) are true. Overall a substantial step up from my 2018 Q7 (fully loaded). Efficiency seems excellent. With 21" wheels and AS tires, my consumption ranged between 3.5 and 3.7 mi/kwh, with outside temperature between 75F and 90F. HUD is absolutely the best in class. Kudos to BMW for integrating it with Android Auto, a superb feature. However, cup holders are not heated/cooled and are hard to reach.
What is the color combination of your 2023 iX?
My 2023 iX has Blue Ridge Mountain exterior with Castanea Chestnut interior, and bronze trim option.
What is the purpose of the charging adapter?
The tesla-J1772 adapter is for charging from Tesla Destination chargers, which exclude their supercharger network. The TT-30 adapter is for charging from the old TT-30 receptacles still found in many RV campgrounds.
Is there a sunshade available for the 2023 iX?
Covercraft states they don't have any sunshade for the 2023 iX and aren't working on it either. It might fit but this is yet to be tested. The best option is to get a custom-made sunshade from a local shop.
What are the TODOs for your 2023 iX?
My TODOs include getting a rear cargo cover, installing a dashcam, and adding a few accessories like a phone holder and cup holders. I also plan to get an extended warranty, as well as winter tires for the cold season. Lastly, I need to find a reliable service center for regular maintenance.
